Synopsis

A sweeping historical epic recounting the seventh-century war in which the small kingdom of Silla defeated Goguryeo, Baekje and the Tang Empire to forge the first unified Korean state. The drama follows King Munmu, son of Kim Chun-chu, as he negotiates ruthless rivals at court and on the battlefield, including the legendary Goguryeo dictator Yeon Gaesomun, while building the alliances and military strategy that culminate in Silla’s improbable triumph over a continental superpower.
